with the cooperation of ISES:
The 8th UNESCO MOST Winter School on Lasting Peace and Human Security has officially begun in Kőszeg, bringing together scholars, diplomats, policymakers, and civil society actors to rethink what peace means in a rapidly transforming world.
This year’s opening carried particular international weight with the presence of Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University and UN Under-Secretary-General, as well as Xiaomeng Shen, Vice-Rector of UNU.
Kőszeg is already set to host the 15th United Nations University institute, the first in Central and Eastern Europe, a development that reflects the region’s growing role in global academic and policy cooperation.
Organized by the Institute for Advanced Studies Kőszeg (iASK) in cooperation with the Ludovika University of Public Service and the Institute for Social and European Studies Foundation, the Winter School challenges traditional security thinking.
At the roundtable discussion—moderated by Jody Jensen, Director of Transdisciplinary Research at iASK—insights were shared by Ambassador Katalin Bogyay,President of UNESCO National Commission of Hungary; President of UN Association of Hungary(UNA-HU); Founder President of Women4Diplomacy International (W4D), Ambassador Gergő Kocsis, Deputy State Secretary for International Cooperation; Gergely Deli, Rector of Ludovika – University of Public Service; János Székely, Bishop of the Diocese of Szombathely (Vas County); Sean Cleary, Chairman of Strategic Concepts (South Africa); Donato Kiniger-Passigli, Director of the World Academy of Art and Science; and Elira Luli, Lecturer at Luarasi University addressed pressing global challenges: artificial intelligence, geopolitical fragmentation, institutional resilience, and the ethical foundations of peace.
The shared message is clear:
Peace must be anticipatory.
Human security must be people-centered.
Innovation must be anchored in values.
For few days, Kőszeg is not just hosting a conference — it is convening a strategic conversation about the future of global cooperation.
